A Bluble
A Plinth

Welcome

Welcome to my web site

Latest update: 27/10/07 Take a look around...I hope you find something at least mildly interesting. If not, then sorry.

My latest obsessions...

Playing Halo 3 multiplayer on the XBox 360. I'm not very good but it's very addictive.

Writing music on my laptop. Just ordered a new soundcard and a microphone, so I'm going to be singing on these tracks soon :/! That could go badly wrong.

Writing. I'm thinking of writing some short stories. Maybe one day I will. For now I will just write on this site for a while.

Ponderings

This really belongs on the God page, but I'm putting it here because I've been thinking about it a lot recently. I'll move it over at some point. Anyway, I have recently read "The God Delusion", by Richard Dawkins, attempting to justify atheism as a rational belief. The book makes some effective attacks on religion (which is a very easy target really!), but he hasn't convinced me that his infinite parallel universes theory (relying on data which is entirely un-measurable) is more probable than a (entirely un-measurable) creator God. His argument for rejecting agnosticism is his claim that God's existence is highly unlikely, given that the path of evolution is from simpler organisms to more complex ones... and so since God must be amazingly complex, he could not be the origin of the universe. But the big flaw in his argument as far as I'm concerned is trying to apply the laws of the physical world we live in, to what is by definition outside our physical world.

I'm in the process of moving over to PHP.

2006

So... I've updated the website design a bit recently, experimenting with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and removing frames from the site as I don't like them.

The trouble with removing the frames is that now I have the sidebar code duplicated on every page now! So whenever I want to change it I have to change every page, which is a real pain. Now I believe I could solve the problem dynamically with server side includes, PHP, or ASP.NET, but unfortunately my web host only supports plain HTML (and CSS).

So, for now, I am using an HTML preprocessor tool that I can use myself to generate the HTML files from templates (which will use includes) so that, for example, I just keep one copy of the sidebar code, link to it from each HTML file, and then I only need to change the one file and regenerate.

Future plans for the website are to divide it into (maybe four) sections, which will be selected across the top of the site, each divided into subdivisions (down the side, as it is now). The reason being that I feel that there are too many subcategories down the side at the moment!

I'm also going to show the currently selected section by colouring the tab.

I also want to add a forum (using PHP / ASP) for discussions!

I also want to add a time / date.

Add extra blank lines on the bottom of the sidebar and main text pages (so there's a nice margin at the bottom).

Work out how to have a maximum text block width for the main pages (they can get too wide with a high resolution I think!)

I want to convert it to be XHTML compliant.

I also want to add a Paypal link so that people can pay me loads of money!

I also want to add a download page where people can download software that I have written, to give them more of a reason to pay me.

I also want to create more images for the site, and maybe some to sell too! (Or I could at least say people can use them for free if they link to my site, so I can drive up the traffic).

Oh yeah, and work out how to provide an RSS feed.

Can't think of anything else at the moment. If you have any ideas, please email me!
